Making fun of mumble rappers7/23/2023 ![]() People who overvalue lyricism and undervalue everything else miss the point. The vibe is more important than anything else. It's literally a genre that was invented by DJ's at block parties. Being a good lyricist is important to a degree and will take you to the next level (Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000) but hip hop has always been about the party. Isn’t that what is considered the focus of hip-hop, the clever word-smithing? ![]() I hope I answered your question, even though it was phrased as a joke. I understand why people don't like the new age hip-hop, but this has happened to all popular genres of music, and it will probably continue to. ![]() I like some of this new shit, but the mumble rap over a trap beat is becoming quite stale, and I reckon something new will take over soon, and people will probably complain again haha. The genre is changing and transforming rapidly, and therefore people don't lose interest. Hip-hop is the new rock and roll, it charts like no other genre. You also see it in pop, not a lot of transformation in the last decade or so, and therefore you don't see a lot of pop charting anymore, compared to what it used to. You see this in the rock scene, there has been little innovation, and mainstream listeners have lost interest in it (Keep in mind, I love the rock genre). If the sound stays the same, people get bored. Well, to answer your question: All music genres go through transformations to cater to a wider audience.
